"73's" is one such case - get used to it! As a matter of fact, some will use the term in such a way as to gaul another. Or, in some cases, the regional usage has already accepted the change. My personal belief is that by stating "73's" one wishes the very best to an individual, and if it is sent to a group, it should mean "best regards to all". After all, do you really want to limit the amount of goodwill on this planet? Wish as often as one would like! Let's enjoy the hobby and not get bogged down in mere semantics and so what if we use a specialized lingo that was once just for CW and message relaying! This is supposed to be fun, right? 73's de Darin, N9RAJ -- =============================================================================== == dB == Romulus the Augustinian == dbatten@sun1.iusb.indiana.edu == == "To absent friends, lost loves, old gods, and the Season of Mists; And == == may each and every one of us always give the devil his due." == =============================================================================== ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Jun 1994 07:07:01 GMT From: ihnp4.ucsd.edu!agate!library.ucla.edu!csulb.edu!csus.edu!netcom.com!netnews@network.ucsd.edu Subject: 440 in So. As an example, 449.425 is a friendly pair in the San Fernando Valley and West LA but has room for somewhat more users. Sure they are co-channeled with several others. The terrain helps here as with others. Another pair 447.025 is coornated as a wide area pair is quite, dont know what happened here but is does not sound as if it is in use. Anyone out there in netland : solved this problem already??? This is almost certainly due to a well-known Ford problem -- electrical noise from the fuel pump. Ford has identified this problem and written up a cure in their Technical Service Bulletin # 93-15-6. However, reports I have received about this fix are mixed; some hams say it cured almost all of their noise, while others say it did nothing. According to the Ford Customer Service folks, (via a League member report), their service bulletins are advisory only and not guaranteed to actually work, so if your vehicle is out of warranty and it doesn't work, they will not offer you your money back. I am not sure about the repair cost, but the fuel pump is inside the gas tank so it is not a 10-minute job. 73 from ARRL HQ, Ed Ed Hare, KA1CV, ARRL Laboratory Supervisor, 225 Main St., Newington, CT 06111 (203) 666-1541 ehare@arrl.org -- Ed Hare, KA1CV, ARRL Laboratory, 225 Main, Newington, CT 06111 203-666-1541 ehare@arrl.org ------------------------------ Date: 16 Jun 1994 19:02:46 -0700 From: ihnp4.ucsd.edu!usc!howland.reston.ans.net!news.ans.net!sitka.wsipc.wednet.edu!connected.com!connected.com!wewtay@network.ucsd.edu Subject: mods forICOM IC-P2AT? Subject: RAIN Talk at ACB Conv, July 7 To: info-hams@ucsd.edu As founder and producer of the Radio Amateur Information Network (RAIN) I have been invited to speak at the American Council of the Blind (ACB) convention, scheduled to be held July 2-9 in the Palmer House in downtown Chicago. My talk, "The Evolution of Amateur Information Services", will be given before the ACB Radio Amateurs, 1:30 PM, Thursday, July 7th. It will last about 30 minutes, and be followed by time for Q&A. It should be noted that I will NOT be compensated for my time. If you plan to attend the week-long convention, bring your 2 meter handheld and program 147.48 MHz simplex into one of its memories. This is the recognized simplex frequency hams attending ACB conventions use to find each other. For those attendees interested in hearing nets carrying the RAIN Dialup during your stay, here is a list of them: DAY TIME REPEATER FREQUENCY LOCATION Sunday 7:00 PM Far Out II 224.78+ Park Ridge 8:00 PM ACLR 147.225+ (107.2 PL) Chicago Tuesday 8:00 PM WAFAR 146.67+ (107.2 PL) Chicago 8:00 PM NSRC 147.345+/224.32- (107.2 PL) Winnetka Wed. 8:00 PM AREA 147.135+ Markham. I don't monitor any one 2-meter repeater but can be found on 146.415 MHz simplex. As I live in Des Plaines, some 30 miles northwest of the Palmer House, you'll need to find a northwesterly-facing window on an upper floor to contact me via simplex. If you have 220, you can find me on the 224.24 KA9REN Arlington HTS repeater. Otherwise, leave me a note in RAIN's voicemail, 708/518-6551.
